When it comes to close family weddings, Shabbir Kara is always called upon to get things done. Good old ‘Uncle Shabs’ never disappoints and you can always rely on him to complete the task. So when his niece asked for help in organising her wedding day, Shabbir was over the moon and couldn’t wait to get involved. His niece knew exactly what she wanted. The bride-to-be had vivid visions of a grand and vibrant wedding: elegant tables stylishly set; soft overhead lighting with candles throughout; a simple yet elegant stage; and perfectly choreographed delivery of food. Right… Shabbir knew he needed help! He called on his good friend, Yasmin Umarji, to help with translating the vision into reality. Yasmin is well-known for her ability to listen (an under-rated skill in our opinion!) and to appreciate the vision of others. And so they got to work. Shabbir and Yasmin had often worked together on projects like these, and everything seemed to run smoothly.
It was a few days before the event and everything was almost ready, the stage was set, there was a tangible excitement in the air. On schedule, Shabbir calls the hiring company he had contracted to provide the table wares. Everything was ready to be picked up just as agreed. Shabbir arrived at the depot with his van, prepared to load the thousands of plates, cutlery, centrepieces and napkins. He was led through the dark and dingy warehouse to where the stock had been held. Shabbir went closer to have a look, it was quite dark. Suddenly, a cold shiver went down his spine.
The plates had not been packed away ready for shipping, the cutlery was dirty and there weren’t even enough pieces! Shabbir complained to the provider but he seemed uninterested and keen for Shabbir to accept the stock in its current state. “Take it or leave it” he said. Shabbir looked on in disbelief, “I think I’ll leave it” he replied. Shabbir is no stranger to disappointment in dealing with catering suppliers, but it never gets any easier to swallow. On the long drive back home he found himself thinking about the situation he had been left in. Was it so hard for somebody to provide the service they said they would? To be dependable? To even care?!
No… it isn’t. Shabbir vowed from that moment that he would put all his effort into creating a vision of his own. One in which he would provide the catering and events hire service people expected. One that is Professional, Dependable and Passionate.
So how did this particular story end I hear you ask? A resounding success! Shabbir called in the help of his wholesale contacts and managed to source all of the wares needed for the wedding in time for the big day. The happy couple were overjoyed with the final result and as for both Shabbir and Yasmin, they had a new dream to pursue, and thus! Eminence Events and Catering hire was born!
